Farmers, Traders and Households' Preference to IVegRI’s Open-Pollinated Chili Varieties in Lembang, West Java, Indonesia

The majority of Indonesian farmers plant open pollinated (OP) chili because the seed price is affordable. However, has weaknesses, such as productivity lower and not uniform. Vegetables Research Institute (IVegRI) attempts to create high-quality OP varieties that could access. study aimed identify farmers, traders households’ preferences for IVegRI released. was carried out in Lembang Sub-district, West Java Province, Indonesia, from March November 2019. A total 82 respondents, consisting households, were asked about their preference three varieties, namely Tanjung, Carvi Ciko. respondents selected purposively. Data analyzed using perceived quality. results this have revealed production per most important attribute while fruit shape color essential attributes evidenced by final scores 4.93, 4.83 4.45, respectively. Traders preferred Tanjung variety, indicated a score 1.04. Meanwhile, households Ciko with 1.05. Farmers' all higher than average among especially weight. This implies Carvi, can be disseminated widely other locations provinces Indonesia. findings are expected provide useful information better understanding factors necessarily considered further improve IVegRI's varieties.
